I was so excited when Kaci first emailed me to photograph some engagement/wedding photos of their very intimate (it was just me, them, and the officiant) wedding ceremony at Arnold Arboretum last November. Kaci and Jessica made the trip all the way up from Texas to tie the knot – they made a nice long weekend of it, and were thankfully able to get the license just in time! It was one of those beautiful, warm-ish November days, and the leaves were still hanging on for that last bit of autumn.

Thanks, you two, it was an honor to be there to witness your wedding vows. Congratulations, and I hope you have a wonderful celebration down in Texas this week!

Ceremony: Arnold Arboretum, Jamaica Plain, MA

I got this announcement/invitation to their wedding reception in Texas, which is happening this week! Wish I could be there with you in the warm Texas sun :)

We did all of these “engagement” photos before we met the officiant for the ceremony.

They found a nice spot, with this beautiful light shining through, for the wedding ceremony at the Arnold Arboretum.

We then headed to the Seaport for a few more photos before they went to the Barking Crab for a celebratory dinner. What a great day!

I absolutely loved spending a fall afternoon with Karla and Chris to get do their engagement photos! It was a perfect day at the beach – just a little cloud cover, and not too terribly chilly… Then into Newburyport (one of my favorite places), to walk around – it’s a great place to get an array of different backdrops… And we even stopped into a bar for a few shots! Photographs, that is, not actual shots. Although Karla and Chris enjoyed a beer and told me about how they had met in a bar, so they wanted to commemorate that in a picture or two.

Also, they did a couple different outfit changes, which is always fun!

Happy New Year! And to any newly engaged couples that have found their way here, congratulations! If you have just gotten engaged, you might be thinking about doing some engagement photos to celebrate, or maybe for save-the-dates for your wedding. With that in mind, here are a few of my favorite places for a classic Boston backdrop for your engagement photos. I am sure there are many more, including perhaps your own neighborhood, which would be great spots. I can’t wait to try them!

Of course, I have to start with one of the most iconic and photographed streets in Boston, Acorn Street in Beacon Hill

Next up – Fenway! For all you baseball fans out there – some people even occasionally get to go inside the Green Monster for photos! That would be awesome!

And my personal favorite – Boston’s North End (this shot was taken at the top of a parking garage if you can believe it, but great view from the North End). I love all things Italian, so the North End has a special place in my heart, and it’s also great to end an engagement session with some pizza and cannoli!

This list would of course not be complete without mention of the Public Garden! Visit on any Saturday throughout the summer and you’ll find multiple photographers and couples (and wedding parties) taking photos all around the gardens. Luckily there are so many interesting little spots, we can all stay out of each other’s way!

I had hardly visited the Seaport area of Boston at all before Meg & Sean’s engagement session – but it is obvious why they chose it – the most breathtaking views of the Boston skyline!

One spot that might not have crossed your mind is the Boston Public Library – but it’s a perfect place to cozy up with a book and your loved one! Especially if you are a bibliophile, or maybe if it’s a particularly chilly day – the library has several nice locations inside to do some photos before braving the cold.

Christopher Columbus Park has the best of both worlds – some lovely greenery (and this beautiful archway), the harbor views, even a carousel – which we did take advantage of in this light-hearted engagement session!

Last but not least – but slightly outside of Boston – is the Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain. One could spend hours walking around here and find more and more amazing backdrops. Not to mention it’s just a nice place for a stroll!

Katherine and Eric found my blog (I believe) through my post 11 Great Locations for Portrait Sessions North of Boston. They fell in love with the dramatic backdrop of the Crane Estate, and thankfully contacted me to do their engagement shoot there! It was a beautiful day to walk around the grounds and explore. They also brought some props to personalize their shoot a bit. I love that they brought a few of their favorite books – they met in college as Literature majors, so definitely a nice aspect to include. :)
