Unique wedding dessert ideas

“Very good. But not my favorite.” - Chocolat

A quote from one of my favorite movies! And exactly how I feel about cake. It turns out, a lot of my clients feel the same way. I love that they decided to follow their hearts (their tastebuds?) and do something less than traditional for their wedding desserts. So, here are some ideas for unique wedding desserts!

While I was preparing this blog post, my 7 year old daughter was looking over my shoulder and I swear her eyes were so big and her mouth was wide open in a huge smile. Yes, honey, this is my job! Sooo many desserts as I go back down memory lane over 15 years of weddings.

Strawberry short cake! While yes, it is a cake, I love that they decided to go with this quintessential summer dessert. And make it into a DIY thing so if you don’t like strawberries - no problem!

OMG… Donuts. Yes, I am here for it for this one! Need I say more (without inserting the obligatory Homer Simpson GIF).

And we present, the dessert smorgasbord. You can’t go wrong with little bites of so many different types and flavors! Something for everyone. Cake pops, cookies, mini tarts, brownies…

Pies - mini-pies! With cute little shapes cut into the tops of them.

This was actually part of their cocktail hour - and the favors for the guests. This high-end chocolatier makes amazing chocolate with subtle flavors from each cocoa bean. And they provided these little tasting jars for people to scoop out a bit to nibble on before making their selection. Forget the wine tasting, let’s do chocolate tasting instead!

Did you know that Ben & Jerry’s will come to your wedding for your own mini ice cream sundae bar?? Yes, they do!

Ah, the macaron. So sweet, so delicate. And even better - all the different colors! I love that they decided to make the macarons match their wedding colors (this plate basically matched the color palette of the bride’s spring bouquet perfectly!).

Okay, so, cake is not a unique wedding dessert really, but I am all about creative solutions! You know after eating your fill of appetizers at cocktail hour, then having a full dinner your guests might be too full to enjoy your delicious cake. So, this couple had little to-go boxes for their guests to take home a slice of cake!

More pies! I love that pies are becoming more popular with weddings. But that’s really not what we’re here for. It’s banana pudding! (The bottom left pic) As a girl who grew up in the south, banana pudding was one of my favorites (I even asked for it instead of cake on my sixteenth birthday). So, even though I try to keep my cool around desserts at weddings, I couldn’t help myself to one (or maybe two) of these yummy cups of deliciousness.

Oh my gosh was this the cutest little sight ever. The owners of Sweet B’s ice cream rode their ice cream cart up with a bicycle and set it up outside of the reception room. It was a perfect treat on a spring day for these two, who don’t love cake.

For a backyard wedding with a campfire, a s’mores bar is totally the way to go!

This was a wedding that was majorly downsized thanks to Covid. The couple still had a minimum order that the restaurant required for their wedding day. Solution? A full cake for each and every guest! And they were all different flavors! I even got one! (My kids ate it over several days, haha). Plus - my favorite little detail - they have an adorable black lab that gets into absolutely everything in their house - so they included him getting into their cake as well.

Alright, so cupcakes and cake are totally traditional yes, but I just wanted to include these because I love the way everything was set up. A little cupcake inspiration!

I love a cake cutting - why not a pie cutting? Sure! So much pie! In every form - the little hand pies were the cutest (and yummy!).

One of my most favorite dessert ideas ever - for this backyard wedding, the couple asked a few of their guests to bring their “signature” cookie. These were amazing midnight snacks for guests to grab as they were partying or take one for the road (I might have done both - cookies are my weakness).
